Welcome — I'm glad you're here.
"Every young person I've mentored has taught me as much as I've taught them."
I started Jala Educators because I grew up watching talented young people in our community lose their way not for lack of ability, but for lack of someone in their corner. A mentor doesn't need to have all the answers. They just need to show up, consistently and believe in someone before that someone has learned to believe in themselves.
That's what we try to build here not a program you complete and move on from, but a relationship that stays with you. Whether you're a young person looking for guidance, a parent hoping for support or someone who wants to give back as a mentor, there's a place for you in this work.
— Joseph Mutinda, Founder
Rooted in community, built around mentorship.
"We believe every young person becomes who they need to be through the people who show up for them."
Jala Educators is a community-based organization working with youth to build the life skills, confidence and guidance that classrooms alone don't always provide. Our mentors are drawn from within the community teachers, professionals and elders who commit to walking alongside young people over time, not just for a single session.
We work closely with families and schools so mentorship reinforces what's already happening at home, rather than replacing it.
The mentorship journey
Every young person who joins Jala Educators moves through three stages, at their own pace.
Find their footing
New mentees are matched with a mentor and take part in group sessions to build trust and identify their own goals and challenges.
Build real skills
Structured life-skills training communication, decision-making, financial basics, and emotional resilience paired with ongoing one-on-one mentorship.
Give back
Graduates are invited to return as peer mentors and youth leaders, keeping the cycle of support going within the community.
Our programs
Three pillars that guide everything Jala Educators builds with young people.
Education & Mentorship
Tuition support, mentorship programs, reading clubs, and scholarship opportunities that bridge educational gaps and cultivate lifelong learning.
Innovation & Digital Skills
Practical technology skills through innovation hubs, coding initiatives, and green innovation programs that prepare young people for the future economy.
Leadership & Community Development
Ethical, responsible and active citizens, grown through leadership academies, civic engagement initiatives, and climate action projects.

Our Tuition Program
Academic support that meets students where they are, offered in two formats:
- Group tuition — small, focused study groups covering core subjects, with peer learning built in.
- Individual (one-on-one) tuitionpersonalized coaching built around how each student learns best.
Sessions run during school holidays, so learning continues without competing with term-time schedules.
We also offer home schooling support for families who need a more flexible, at-home learning arrangement — reach out and we'll talk through what that could look like for your child.

Our impact so far

"My mentor didn't just help me pass my exams — he helped me believe I had a future worth planning for."
— Program graduate, MakueniSuccess stories
A few of the young people whose paths we've walked alongside.
Brian joined our group tuition sessions when he was falling behind in class and losing confidence in himself as a student. With steady, structured support, he not only closed the gap — he's now one of the students other learners in his group turn to for help.
Stacy came to our tuition program needing extra support to keep pace with her classwork. What she found was more than academic help — a consistent space where her questions were welcomed and her effort was noticed, which changed how she shows up in the classroom.
Raphael came to our annual camp just to try something new — and left having learned to play chess. He kept practicing long after camp ended, and recently represented his school at the regional chess competition, a moment that started with one week of curiosity.
Mathematics used to be the subject Deborah dreaded most. Through one-on-one coaching built around how she actually learns, that dread turned into genuine interest — she now approaches math problems as puzzles to solve rather than obstacles to survive.
